Exciting News! Gateway Music Outreach is thrilled to announce the addition of piano classes to our curriculum this fall!
At Gateway Music Outreach, we believe in providing comprehensive music education that empowers young musicians with a wide range of skills. By adding piano classes to our curriculum, we aim to equip orchestra students with the tools they need to excel not only in their orchestral performances but also in their musical journeys.
Gateway Music Outreach's 2023 Founder's Award Honoree, Essence Williams, is the embodiment of their vision. In 2017, we had the privilege of meeting her during one of our site-based violin programs at Better Family Life, and since then, she has remained a dedicated member and champion of the program. As the first recipient of the Erijah Scott Johnson Scholarship and our first Adopt-A-Musician student, Essence has surpassed the minimum requirements of the program of attendance, adherence to the practice schedule, willingness to take direction from private instructors, and involvement in GMO performances.
Through her participation in GMO, Essence has had the opportunity to participate in the SLSO Peer-to-Peer Program, collaborate with artists such as Grammy Award-winning Michael McDonald and Grammy-nominated duo Black Violin, and perform in the GMO Community String Ensemble as a concert soloist and special guest at community outreach events.
Gateway Music Outreach is pleased to share that the D’Addario Foundation has provided a grant and in-kind donation to support the Adopt - A Musician program. The Adopt-A-Musician Program is an income-based scholarship program that assists underserved youth and their parents with the costs associated with instrument rental, instrument purchase, or private instruction. The goal is to remove the financial roadblocks which deter these budding musicians from exploring the opportunities and benefits afforded via the vehicle of quality music education.
